Bengaluru-based quick-service coffee and food brand, Third Wave Coffee, was launched in 2016 and is now been easily seen as a fitting Indian rival to the storied Starbucks. The USP of the brand is making locally sourced specialty coffee more accessible in India.

Third Wave Coffee was founded by Sushant Goel, Ayush Bathwal and Anirudh Sharma. However, none of them had a background to run a coffee chain, but it was their passion for the brew that made them take the risk and take the brand where it is today.

Earlier this week, Third Wave Coffee raised $35 million in a Series C funding round led by Creaegis. The company currently has over 100 outlets, half of which are in Bengaluru, and is valued at around $150 million. Third Wave Coffee also has a presence in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurgaon, Pune, Hyderabad, Noida, Coonoor and Chandigarh.

Let's take a look at Co-founder and CEO Sushant Goel's journey:

Sushant Goel pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering and Economics from Northwestern University, Illinois.

During his time at the university, he actively participated in various extracurricular activities and societies, including the Global Engagement Summit, Kellogg India Business Conference, and the Venture Capital and Private Equity Club.

Sushant ran his own data analytics firm prior to founding Thir Wave. Before that, he used to work with McKinsey & Co. in the US.

"I actually got started by accident. My love affair with the business started with the first cafe in Koramangala and the community of regular patrons that started to build over time," Yourstory cited Sushant Goel as saying.

Sushant co-founded Clustr, a venture that operated from January 2014 to 2018. During this period, he gained valuable experience in the entrepreneurial landscape and honed his business acumen, according to a Financial Express report.
