Meet DU alumnus who joined Rs 70,966 crore company in 2005, now leads it as CMD

Parminder Chopra is the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC). She is the first woman to lead the country's largest non-banking financial company (NBFC). Earlier, she was holding the additional charge of CMD since June 1, 2023, while also serving as the Director of Finance at PFC since July 1, 2020. Chopra joined PFC in 2005. 

PFC is an Indian central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Power. It has a market capitalisation of Rs 70,966 crore as of August 18, 2023. The share price of the PFC was Rs 268 on Friday. During her term as Director (Finance), Chopra spearheaded the Finance Division, leading to highest net profit, highest net worth and lowest NPA levels.

Chopra holds a Bachelor`s degree in Commerce from Delhi University and is a qualified Cost Accountant. She also has a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management. Chopra has over 30 years of experience in power sector, serving in key power sector organizations like National Hydroelectric Power Corporation of India (NHPC) and Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL).

She has attended advanced programmes on Risk Management and Global Management in world renowned institutes -- Harvard University, USA and European School of Management. In 2023, Chopra has been honoured with the esteemed `Icon of the Year’ award by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India for making significant contributions to the realms of business, society, and the nation.

In addition to this recognition, during the same year she has also been conferred with the 'Finance Leader of the Year' Award for her outstanding contributions to the finance industry. These accolades highlight her exceptional achievements and enduring impact on various fronts. With her taking over, she will be providing impetus to PFC’s crucial role of financing India`s energy transition goals apart from funding power and infrastructure sectors.
