Blaming power theft in the capital on electricity delivery contractors, BSES said it would phase them out by the end of this year.
NEW DELHI: Blaming power theft in the capital on electricity delivery contractors, private distribution company BSES on Monday said it would phase them out by the end of this year.
The company has removed 39 Single Point Delivery (SPD) contractors from West Delhi in a fortnight, the discom said in a release.
Over 500 SPD systems have already been phased out by BSES and it plans to remove the remaining SPDs by this year.
The company has planned to invest Rs 4,000 crore to upgrade and strengthen the distribution network and will include the existing SPD consumers in its network.
It has urged the consumers to take legal BSES connections to avoid disconnection.
BSES had to supply power to SPDs contractors in the previous system, who would then distribute it further to their consumers and on their own network.
The discom claimed that all major electricity-related problems are created by the SPD contractors. It blamed the SPD system for power theft, saying these contractors did nothing to improve the distribution infrastructure.
