Veteran actress Zeenat Aman posted two pictures of her with Dharmendra, sparking nostalgia for the fans on 8th August. However, the pictures were just an accessory with the anecdotes she posted to reinforce that people should have the freedom to dress as they please, without the fear of being violated.

Zeenat posted a pic from the song Sare Bazar Karenge Pyaar from the film Katilon Ke Kaatil (1981). For the song’s video, Dharmendra and Zeenat switched their gender roles, where Dharmendra donned a white dress with lipstick and Zeenat wore a cowboy outfit with a moustache. While the song was seen as comical, its inner connotation implied much more. She said, “The first picture here is from the song Saare Bazaar Karenge Pyar from the film Kaatilon Ke Kaatil. It’s an excellent number, with a full-fledged gender role reversal! I posted this image first because I think people should have the right to dress as they please, without being threatened or assaulted. Perhaps the picturization of the song was meant to be comical, but its message is clear -“ दिखा दे हम मोहब्बत में है कितना दम दुनिया मानेगी मनेगी मानेगी मोहब्बत ऐसे होती है (Let us show how strong love can be, the world will agree love is like this)”

Zeenat also praised Dharmendra as not just an actor but also a person. She recalls how comfortable she felt around him. Her time spent filming with him was absolute joy, as described in her caption, “Of the many actors I had the privilege of being a costar to, Dharm ji was a favourite. Yes, he was strikingly handsome, but more importantly he was a down-to-earth gentleman. There were no pretences or airs about him, and that made me feel most comfortable on set. Dharm ji and I starred in a number of films together, including the international heist Shalimar. If you recall, I previously shared that this film was simultaneously shot in English and Hindi to cater to both audiences. Well, Dharm ji required assistance with his English dialogues and I required help with my Hindi. And so, post the daily shoot you would find each of us with our respective tutors, studiously running our lines for hours! These pictures aren’t from Shalimar though.”

The second photograph was a still of the actress wearing a shimmering silver costume and jewellery for the song Naya Naya Hota Hai from the 1984 movie Jagir along with Dharmendra who had donned a comparable black suit. Zeenat Aman and Dharmendra have been co-stars in many films besides these, including Yaadon Ki Baaraat (1973), Dharam-Veer (1977).

Apart from this, Zeenat was last seen in the series of promotions she did for a finance company on Instgram. Her presence on Instagram continues to raise important issues and fans have looked up to her as a role model for many decades.
