Stree, which opened in cinemas last week, has been appreciated by critics as well as audiences. No wonder, the horror comedy, which has been made on a modest budget, has shown good growth in numbers over the weekend.

It tells the story of a quaint town, Chanderi, which is haunted by a rather unique ghost, known as Stree. Horror comedies in Bollywood are rare and the genre is still fairly unexplored. But, it seems Stree has set the ball rolling as the delicate balance of chills and thrills is working with viewers.

Maddock Films, the production house that has earlier entertained us with Cocktail, Badlapur and Hindi Medium, continues its magical run with this Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer, made in association with DR2 Films and Jio Studios. Dinesh Vijan, who’s presenting this movie, says, “We’ve always backed projects we believe in and it’s extremely gratifying when the audience validates our vision. Our numbers have grown from strength to strength and we are exhilarated with all the love that we are getting.” Besides Rajkummar and Shraddha, the entire cast, comprising Aparshakti Khurana, Pankaj Tripathi and Abhishek Banerjee have delivered good performances.

Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, who have scripted and co-produced this horror comedy, echo, “The fact that it’s appealing to all kinds of audiences makes us feel so great especially because we always felt that our brand of humour can appeal to everyone! We are terribly excited and truly thankful.”

First-time director Amar Kaushik is ecstatic with the response. “We are happy that Stree is being appreciated across the world. I am thankful to Dinoo (Dinesh Vijan), and Raj and DK, who trusted me with this great script and supported me all through the making of this film. I hope to do good some good work and keep entertaining the audience in the future as well,” he exults.
