Shilpa Shetty has started the promotions of her upcoming film Sukhee, in which she plays Sukhpreet ‘Sukhee’ Kalra, a 38-year-old Punjabi housewife who runs to Delhi to attend her school reunion behind her husband's back and experiences the freedom that she had been longing for her past 21 years.

In an interview with Zoom, Shilpa made a shocking revelation that her mother Sunanda Shetty was suggested by doctors to abort the 'stillborn' actress. The actress said, "My mom told me that when I was conceived, she thought she was going to lose me, and the doctors suggested that she should abort the child because she went through a very difficult pregnancy. They thought she was going to have a miscarriage because she was constantly bleeding. I was stillborn. I just feel like I am a survivor."

"So, she always believed that I was here for a purpose, and that just makes me feel like films are just a catalyst in my life. I’m here to maybe do something and maybe be a source of inspiration for people who are going through a lot. If  you see my social media, I’m constantly putting up messages because we are all having a hard time in life. Not everyone has it easy", the actress added.

Talking about her upcoming film, Sukhee marks the directorial debut of Sonal Joshi, who has previously worked as assistant directors on star-studded films like Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif's Dhoom 3, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone's Tamasha, and Shah Rukh Khan's and Anushka Sharma's Jab Harry Met Sejal.

Apart from Shilpa Shetty, Sukhee also stars Amit Sadh, Kusha Kapila, Pavleen Gujral, Dilnaz Irani, Chaitannya Choudhry, and Jyoti Kapoor in leading roles. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Vikram Malhotra, and Shikhaa Sharma, the film releases in cinemas on September 22.
