Speaking with Mid-Day.com, the filmmaker talked about this one-sided love and said, "That person was completely sensitive to me and went through every beat with me with utmost sensitivity so I can neither hate that person nor can be indifferent towards them. Today, that person is very much part of my family."
When a Reddit user noticed this and posed a question, "Who is this ex-lover of Karan who is now his family?", netizens speculated that Karan is talking about the ace fashion designer Manish Malhotra. Meanwhile, Karan marked his return to direction after seven years with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt-starre romantic drama Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which released in the theatres in July this year and turned out to be a blockbuster earning more than Rs 300 crore at the global box office.
The film, which received an overwhelmingly positive response from audiences and critics, also featured Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Churni Ganguly, Aamir Bashir, Kshitee Jog, Anjali Anand, and Namit Das in the lead roles. It has music composed by Pritam and lyrics written by Amitabh Bhattacharya.
