Got any complaints for the Palike? You can now register them online. On Tuesday, BBMP Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena and administrator KM Shivakumar launched the Public Grievance Cell (PGC) website.

This online control room of BBMP will be functional round-the-clock.

BBMP officials will be trained to handle complaints that arrive online. Specially-designed software will be developed to integrate various departments and organise video-conferencing when required, said Meena. Shivakumar said, “BBMP’s aim is to create a paperless regime in city governance.” He added that e-initiatives have been incorporated for smoother and more transparent administration. Contractors too, once savvy with this mode of operation, will be aided by the efficiency and the transparency of the system.

Shivakumar claimed that e-tendering and e-procurement have helped the BBMP to reduce expenses drastically, leading to savings of nearly 15 per cent over the last two months. Cost of paper and service can be drastically cut through this mode, he said.

“BBMP has been able to recover more revenue from property tax by bringing more properties under the tax net through the Global Positioning System (GPS) and the Geographical Information System (GIS). The GIS process will be completed in the next three months, and this will help bring all 15 lakh properties under the tax net,” Shivakumar said.

Other e-initiatives like online khata, birth and death registration and online plan sanction would be launched shortly. Of the 15,000 projects taken up by the BBMP around 9,000 projects have been updated on the website for public information, the BBMP commissioner said.
