Several parts of the state continued to witness heavy rains on Tuesday, thanks to the good spell of monsoon that Gujarat has been receiving so far. The highest rainfall was recorded in Visavadar taluka of Junagadh which received 141mm rainfall followed by Gandevi in Navsari which recorded 114mm rainfall. Vadodara which found itself waterlogged following heavy rains in August once again received a good spell of rains. The district recorded 92 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas.

The state has so far received over 110% of its annual average rainfall of 816mm. Gujarat has recorded 897mm of rainfall untill Tuesday. In all, 63 talukas of the state have received over 1000mm of rainfall this season. Almost all the regions except north Gujarat have received in excess of 100% rainfall, with Kutch and Saurashtra — both drought-prone regions — recording 140% and 109% rainfall.

The Met department has meanwhile predicted heavy to very heavy rains including extremely heavy falls for south Gujarat. It said Bharuch, Surat and Navsari will be particularly affected.

Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Dahod and Mahisagar are also expected to see heavy rains in the coming two days.

Meanwhile, Skymet has said that while the state will get more rains in the coming days the intensity of the same will be less although some areas may see heavy spells continuing particularly in the southern district.

The rains have also helped increase the water level in Sardar Sarovar to 136.41 mt which is less than 2 metres short of the Full Reservoir Level (FRL). The dam that is the lifeline of Gujarat at present has 8,748 MCM of water in it at present. Of the total 204 small and big dams in the state, a high alert has been issued for 114 dams that have been filled over 90%. Twelve dams in the state have been filled between 80% to 90% of their capacity. Region-wise, south Gujarat has seen the maximum number of dams receiving good water inflow. On an average, the dams in the region have been filled 88%.
