The Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) 2012 results will be declared on its official website early on Friday.

Candidates who appeared for the exam could enter their registration number to check their ranks, which give a fair indication of whether they had qualified for admission into an IIT.

A total of 5,07,634 students appeared for the IIT-JEE 2012 that was conducted on April 8. Out of these, 77,550 were from the Bombay zone.

AV Mahajan, chairman of IIT-JEE Bombay zone, said, “While candidates will be able to check their ranks, an analysis of the results that will ascertain how many have qualified will be ready only later on Friday.”

“Although the results will be declared on Friday, candidates must  already have a fair idea of their score since this year, they were allowed to take home a copy of their answer sheet and the key to the right answers was already published on the website on May 7,” said Mahajan. The answer sheets were made of a chemically treated paper to imprint the student’s markings on a piece of paper beneath the main answer sheet.

JB Reddy, chairperson IIT-JEE, said, “The results will be uploaded on the website by early Friday. Statistical details about the results and toppers will be declared at IIT-Delhi later in the day.” IIT Delhi is organising the IIT-JEE this year.

The IIT-JEE 2012 was worth 408 marks — lower than the usual 480 — and had fewer questions to give students a chance to complete the exam. However there were no changes in the evaluation pattern. A candidate is required to score 10% in each subject and an aggregate of 35% (140 marks) to qualify.
