At least two people were killed and 10 others injured in an explosion near the Kabul University on Friday.

The blast took place in Police District 3 (PD3) area in the city, local media reported.

The casualties were confirmed by Afghanistan's Public Health Ministry's spokesperson Wahidullah Mayar.

A number of students were waiting outside the university when the explosion occurred, sources said.

According to eyewitnesses, two vehicles went up in flames after the blast.

More details are awaited.

Earlier this month, on July 1, the Afghan capital was shaken by another deadly explosion, for which the ISIS had claimed responsibility.

Meanwhile, at least 12 people, including seven civilians, were killed in a Taliban attack on Kandahar police headquarters on Thursday. President Ashraf Ghani had condemned the attack and said that the Afghan government is seeking ways for peace but the Taliban by such attacks shows that they do not want peace and stability.

The explosions come amid the Taliban-US negotiations regarding internal matters of the country.

A potential deal would see the US agree to withdraw its troops after more than 17 years in Afghanistan, igniting deep concerns among huge swathes of Afghans who fear the militants will return to some semblance of power.

In return, the Taliban would guarantee the country would never again become a safe haven for violent extremist groups, as happened with Al-Qaeda before the September 11, 2001 attacks.
