Food delivery apps and services became lifesavers for many ever since the COVID pandemic hit the country, which resulted to subsequent lockdowns. Delivery persons became the unsung heroes of the pandemic, delivering food and essentials on our doorsteps while risking their health.

Most people have come to appreciate the efforts of delivery persons through this pandemic, but that is not the case with this establishment in Udaipur. A mall in Udaipur recently put up a notice regarding Zomato and Swiggy delivery persons, which irked a lot of people.

In what is being assumed as an act of segregation, the mall put up a notice which states that Zomato and Swiggy delivery boys are not allowed to use the lifts in the building, and must use stairs in case they need to access other floors.

The notice was posted on the internet by journalist Sobhana Nair. The notice was uploaded on Twitter by her, along with the caption, “Modern-day feudalism.” The notice clearly states that food delivery executives are not allowed to use the lift, and must use the stairs.

The image of the poster went viral immediately after several other Twitter users accused the mall in Udaipur of discrimination and segregation. The post was soon flooded with replies of enraged Twitter users, calling out the establishment for their discriminatory rule.

One of the Twitter users wrote “I used to deliver food for Skip the Dishes (London, Ontario). People let me go first in the elevator so that I could deliver in time and have another delivery option. This is why India is far behind these countries.”

Another Twitter user said, “This is cruelty to the poor delivery boys. This is not done anywhere.” Other users called the notice “dumb and insensitive” and a “human rights violation” on the mall’s part.
