As the superstar gears up to host Bigg Boss 12, the makers create an abode to make him feel at home
Salman Khan returns as the host of Bigg Boss and like every year, the superstar has got a special house in Lonavla where he goes each weekend for the show. This time, the Dabangg Khan will be chilling in a beach house sans a beach! “While the chalet remains the same, the design has changed — last year, it was a log house — this year, it is open to the sea, imaginary, of course,” smiles Omung Kumar, who has done it up. “Actually, my wife Vanita has designed it. When the last season was over, she said that she would create a beach house next, and that’s how the process started,” he shares.
WHITE DRIFTWOOD-FEEL
In keeping with the theme, white rafters, a white boat and two huge oars have been put up on the walls. While the boat is part of the background in the hall, the oars are part of Salman’s bedroom wall.
Even the colour scheme reflects the blue hues of the sea, the rough texture of sand and sunshine. “We have played with lots of white and blue. In the hall, there is a painting of the sea. The boat on the wall is blending in. There is a white sofa where Salman sits with his friends to discuss the goings-on in the house and also watch TV. Overall, we have given it a white drifthood-feel,” says Omung.
The Bollywood superstar’s pictures adorn the hall. “Last time, we had it made with patchworks, this time the artistes have used water colours to stay in sync with the theme. There are portraits with half- done and half-not-done faces of Salman — he generally likes them — with water dripping on his visage. When you go outdoors, there is a white scrap wood cabana, where huge tokris of lamps are hanging. We also have a fountain just to have a water flow in it,” reveals the designer-filmmaker.
Bamboos form the windows’ photo frames, with ropes tied on the end. There is also a long table that you usually find on a beach. One side of the wall is painted in dark blue and has a paddle hanging on it. “It’s the look of a stayed-in house, but at the same time, the white colour scheme gives it a fresh look. There are fiber lamps and shelves in the hall with lights behind it, which gives a different feel in the evening,” he adds.
In the bedroom, the walls and the upholstery are all done in white. Paintings made by Salman and also those of him making an art work are put up on the wall. There is a gym and kitchen, too, in the house. “These two are mandatory for Salman. Whenever he comes, he pumps up and gets refreshed before going on the set. It’s a home away from home for him as he lives here. It’s not just for show,” says Omung, who is waiting to get feedback from the actor.
