ZEEL introduces new digital entertainment platform ZEE5: Top features of the app

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has launched its own over-the-top video streaming platform called ZEE5, which will offer Indian and international movies and TV shows, music, live TV, and health and lifestyle content across 12 languages, including English, Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Odiya, Bhojpuri, Gujarati and Punjabi.

Viewers who opt for a subscription pack will have access to the entire library of content at a special launch offer price of Rs 99 per month instead of the actual monthly pack, which is priced Rs 150.

The app is now available for download for Android and iOS users. Additionally, ZEE5 will also be available across Amazon Fire TV Stick, Chromecast and on www.zee5.com. The new OTT platform ​is currently available in India and will roll out in global markets over the next three months. 

ZEE5 aims to address the entertainment demands of the new India which is becoming increasingly tech savvy and globally connected. With its core proposition being 'language', ZEE5 aims to cater to the needs of the masses across India, without any barriers.

1. The ZEE5 app can be customized as per a user’s preferred app language, and also offers a rich experience as video streaming is available in HD quality.

2. Users have the choice to binge watch from over 80,000 hours of TV shows along with 500 series from as many as 8 Indian languages. The ZEE5 app also offers offline download for shows and movies as well. Some of the popular list of TV shows includes high-rated shows from across Indian languages, including Kundali Bhagya, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, Tuzhat Jeev Rangala, Mazhya Navryachi Bayko, Muddha Mandaram, Konchem Touchlo Unte Chepta, Solvathellam Unmai, Dance Jodi Dance, Dadagiri Unlimited, Didi No. 1, Dance Karnataka Dance, Drama Juniors, and many more.

3. Apart from Indian languages, ZEE5 offers an impressive collection of premium TV series from across the globe, including Turkish, Korean and Spanish shows in HD, exclusively available in Hindi.

4. With LIVE TV on-the-go, users can choose from over 90 live TV channels and enjoy Hindi, English and Regional GECs, movie channels, News channels and Kids channels. Live darshan feeds from Shirdi Sai Baba, Siddhivinayak Temple and other devotional places are also available.

5. Along with TV shows, users will have the chance to relive some of the events and videos from Hindi and regional events like Zee Cine Awards, Zee Kutumbam Awards, Zee Marathi Awards and more.

6. ZEE5 also offers content for kids as well. These include animated series, science shows, DIY tips for crafts and clips on English rhymes and other learning-based videos.

7. In terms of functionality, the ‘Content Download’ option will allow users to download content from the app while on WiFi and save it to watch later. Additionally, ZEE5 includes Chromecast/ airplay support, Add to Watch-list, Add to Favourites, Set Show reminders, ability to browse other content with player minimisation, TV Guide and the ability to stream on low bandwidth.

In conversation with DNA Money, Amit Goenka, chief executive officer, Zee International and Z5 Global stated that majority of the content will be free. He said, "The premium content will include international shows, original shows, acquisitions, redirected (fast-pacing of our existing shows and dubbing for a different experience to audiences who may not have seen it in the long form) and so on. We are experimenting with a lot of original and premium content, and depending on what works, we will do more and more of that in the future."
