It comes at a cost of just Rs1,950, and from Wednesday, Hindustan Petroleum’s distributors will have this little device to show you, that could help you reduce the amount of cooking gas you consume. The device has been called the ‘electronic gas saver’.

Deepak Matalia, the man behind the device, said, “The electronic gas saver can be attached to the cylinder. It has to be charged for about 15 minutes once in a fortnight. What the device does is that it ensures that the heat generated is used efficiently, so that cooking time is reduced.”

Matalia said that once the device is installed, gas consumed would reduce by about 10% at the very least. The electronic gas saver had been launched in the international market in 2002, and many regions in the country already have consumers using it.

The device has to be cleaned at least once in six months to ensure that it works well. If the cleaning process is regular, the device can be expected to last a very long time, Matalia said.

Raju N Nair, chief regional manager, LPG, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, said, “With the grave shortage of fuel, this device comes as a blessing. Households will be able to save on the amount of money spent on cooking gas, as well as the time spent cooking.”

Cooking gas is a precious resource, and it should be used responsibly and carefully, said Matalia, adding that the device would help households use cooking gas optimally, with minimal wastage. There is an imminent shortage of fuels that the world faces, and such technology would help ease that fear of scarcity some little bit, Matalia said.

Matalia said that he had a device that could save fuel consumed by vehicles as well; this was yet to be launched.
