Indian government issues high severity warning for Android users; check details

The Indian government has issued a warning for Android users and labelled it as 'high severity'. The Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said that multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Android. The CERT-In mentions that Android versions 10, 11, 12, 12L and even 13 are vulnerable to the issue.

It said that these vulnerabilities could be exploited by an attacker to obtain sensitive information, gain elevated privileges and cause a denial of service on the targeted system. CERT-In advised users to update the software of their phones right away. 

The agency said these vulnerabilities are caused by flaws in the Framework, Android Runtime, System Component, Google Play system updates, Kernel, Arm components, MediaTe components and Qualcomm closed-source components.

To keep your Android devices safe, CERT-In recommends that users should update their devices to the latest security patches as soon as possible. How to check updates for your Android phone:

1. Go to settings.
2. Tap on system.
3. Tap on system updates.
4. If there is an update available, tap on Download and install.
5. Follow the instructions to complete the update.
