West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder has replaced Denesh Ramdin as the new Test skipper for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka, which starts in Galle on October 14. The 23-year-old, who is also leading the one-day international side, has only played eight Tests so far.

According to a West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Holder's appointment was recommended by the selection panel and endorsed unanimously by the directors.

"Jason commands respect. He is a fine young man, very intelligent and he seems to get the best from the players because he is a straightforward guy. He has a young bunch of players and we feel he can guide them in the manner that is required for internationals," said chief selector and former skipper Clive Lloyd.

Holder has scored 380 runs, including a century and two fifties, at an average of 34.54 and has also claimed 16 wickets in Tests.
