Outstation vehicle owners beware! You cannot escape Pune RTO's eyes

For those who have their vehicles registered outside state, getting away from Pune regional transport office (RTO) has become tougher.

The RTO is now tracking down all outstation registration vehicle owners who have not paid their road tax and are plying their vehicles in the city for more than 30 days. In a special drive held by the Pune RTO, as many as 111 such vehicles were confiscated in the last three months and Rs5 crore collected as road tax. All the outstation vehicles were plying in the city for more than 30 days.

A senior police inspector of traffic branch (administration), Rajendra Dhage, said, “The vehicles coming from other states have to register with the Pune RTO in 30 days. Most of the working professionals coming from other states bring their vehicles here. If they know that they are going to stay in the city for a longer period of time then they should get it registered under the Pune RTO.”

Regional transport officer Arun Yeola claimed that most of the time people tend to save on road tax by not registering. “In order to catch hold of these offenders we started a special drive from July. Most of the vehicles owners do not want to get their vehicles registered under Pune RTO, as they want to avoid paying surplus tax. Company-owned outstation vehicles have to pay 20 per cent as road tax and private owned vehicles have to pay nine per cent as road tax,” said Yeola.
