Filing income tax can be a huge task for many people. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government of India has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns multiple times. The last date to file the IT returns is now January 10. For the businesses and firms, the last date for doing the same is February 15.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said that a large number of taxpayers have not filed their tax returns yet, despite multiple deadlines.

According to the latest data shared by the Income Tax India, more than 5.16 crore ITR for Annual Year 2020-21 have been filed till January 6, 2021.

A total of 94,478 and 86,004 taxpayers filed their returns in an hour on Wednesday (January 6) and Thursday (January 7) respectively, according to the I-T department.

The statistics clearly state that filing an income tax is no more a difficult process for many now. With the use of free applications, anyone can file their tax returns in a few minutes.

Here are some I-T registered apps and websites which can be used to file tax returns within a few minutes.

ClearTax Black

Using the ClearTax Black application, any user can file their tax return in three simple steps. The users first need to upload Form-16, log in to the ITR portal to autofill data, and fill in their data manually.

The users can check if they have any outstanding dues. If there are tax dues, the user has to pay the challan and enter the challan in the 'taxes paid' section on the app.

Once the dues are cleared, the users can proceed to e-filing. It takes about six minutes to complete the e-filing. Users will receive an acknowledgement number on the app once the filing is completed. Users can also e-verify from the app.

SBI YONO app

The State bank of India has come up with a major relief for its online customers. The State Bank of India is allowing its online customers to file Income Tax Returns for free, using its banking app, YONO. Meanwhile, if the customer requires any CA-Assisted services, they can pay Rs 199 to get the assistance of a tax expert.

Income Tax Portal

The Income Tax Department also launched a free service for its taxpaying customers. Taxpayers can visit the income-tax e-filing portal — incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in — to file their returns. Moreover, for the ease of customers, the I-T Department has introduced 'Jhatpat Processing'. This feature is only applicable to taxpayers whose ITRs are verified and bank accounts are pre-validated.
