Saturday turned out to be a nightmare for Salim Shaikh, a 45-year-old garage owner whose to-be son-in-law Dayanand Redkar, 27, was allegedly stabbed to death by a local goon at Kurar in his presence. Shaikh and Redkar were on their way to Kurar police station after the former’s daughter allegedly went missing.

According to police, Redkar, who runs a welding shop in Appapada in Malad (East), was approached by Shaikh to accompany him to the police station to file a missing person complaint about his daughter. “However, Balu Dhulve, a local goon, who was standing nearby ordered Redkar not to accompany Shaikh to the police station. This was followed by a heated exchange of words between them,” said police inspector Vijay More of Kurar police station.

More added that Dhulve then started abusing Redkar and threatened him of dire consequences. However, when Redkar did not pay heed to Dhulve’s warning, the latter allegedly brandished his knife and stabbed Redkar in the abdomen.

“Shaikh’s horror on witnessing the incident cannot be imagined. He was already worried about his daughter and then witnessed the murder of his to-be son-in-law,” said More. He added that Shaikh immediately lodged a complaint against Dhulve at Kurar police station.
Redkar was rushed to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Dhulve was subsequently arrested by Kurar police on charges of murder. He also has an assault case registered against him two months ago at the same police station, police said.
