Criticising the Devendra Fadnavis-led government for not opting for division of vote to prove majority, former chief minister Narayan Rane said the BJP government in state won't last for more than two years.

Rane slammed the state for resorting to voice vote while passing the confidence motion, and said at least now BJP should not talk of morality and give moral lessons to others. He added that had the government gone for division of votes, it would have been in a better position to declare proudly that it is not a minority government.

Rane was also critical of his own party and said Congress should not have withdrawn its candidate from the election for the speaker's post.

The senior Congress leader did not mince words when talking about the recent court ruling on reservation for Marathas and Muslims either. Rane said the government should have pleaded the case, and added that further course of action by the state would prove whether it is for or against Maratha reservation.

Rane said he had headed the committee for Maratha reservation and studied the issue thoroughly before arriving at the decision. He pointed out that the government had also gone for filing a caveat and taken the decision keeping all the laws in mind.
