Seven Hills Hospital controversy continues at BMC

In a civic house session on Friday, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief Swadhin Kshatriya warned the Seven Hills hospital on Friday that the BMC was the owner of the plot on which the hospital stands and was willing to take action if the hospital did not abide by its demands.

The BMC had laid down six conditions while entering a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the hospital trust in 2002. Shiv Sena leader Sunil Prabhu started a discussion in the civic house on the issue, and demanded that, “If the hospital does not abide by all six conditions, assuming that they are the owners of the whole property, the BMC has to teach them a lesson,” he said.

“In the original proposal, there was provision to take action against the hospital if the trust violates the terms of the contract, but there was one month’s notice period, which has been increased to two months in the final proposal,” BJP leader Ashish Shelar observed, and demanded action against the officials who had made these changes.

Corporators have also demanded reservation for poor patients in all the wards of the hospital, medicines made available at concessional rates, as compared to other hospitals, and reservation for the BMC in the cancer hospital. They also demanded a share for the BMC in the proposed medical college.
