Eleven-year-old Ayan Yasin Shaikh, a class VI student of St Joseph’s High School (SCC), New Panvel, made the city proud as his drawing made to the national finals and was finally adjudged the best in the west (Maharashtra) zone in the fifth season of Doodle4Google competition conducted by the internet giant Google.

This year the competition received around 1.5 lakh entries for the contest held across 100 cities and 1,500 schools.

With the theme as Indian women, Shaikh showcased women as housewife, teacher, doctor, mother and working woman in his doodle.

Shaikh said that he got the idea of his doodle from his surroundings. Doodle4Google (D4G) is an annual competition from the internet giant Google for students of classes I to X who are invited to design the Google doodle to celebrate Children’s Day.

“Children are so sensitive to the surroundings they grow up in. It can be seen from the competition organised by Google which had students participating with great enthusiasm from all over India. Students portrayed various facets of the Indian women through their work,” said a teacher of the school.

Saeeda J Malim, headmistress of the school said his imagination of progress of the Indian women won him laurels. She added that he had included women in his surroundings and used colours beautifully to portray his theme ‘Life of an Indian Woman’. Ayan’s mother revealed in ecstasy that all the efforts were his own and they were not even aware that the competition was being held at a national level.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaikh said that he got all the information about the competition and the form from his school. “I just saw women in my surroundings and came up with the idea. I thank the school for introducing me to such a competition and encouraging me to perform my best,” said Shaikh.

Headmistress Malim claimed that he won the competition because of the exposure he got in the school.
