The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) gears up for pre-monsoon drive sets deadline of May 10 for major infrastructure projects in the metropolis.
"Before rains hit the city, the pre-monsoon work should be ready we have set deadlines for all road related works. With all our preparation we would ensure that Mumbaikars do not face problems during monsoon," municipal commissioner Swadhin Kshatriya told reporters here.
"As major infrastructure projects such as Metro and Mono rail, Skywalks are going on in the city, we have asked concerned agencies to bring the work to a safe stage by May 10," Kshatriya said.
This year the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will be constructing in all 51 skywalks in the city. Of which, work of nine skywalks are going on.
The civic administration will work closely with all the agencies including MMRDA, Railways, and others to ensure there is no problem this monsoon.
"A meeting has been called to discuss pre-monsoon activities with the railways, with Central Railway we will hold a meeting on April 5 and for Western Railways it would be on April 8," Kshatriya said.
The local civic body has set a deadline for upgradation of asphalt and concrete roads, footpath, filling potholes, trenches and desilting of nullah.
The civic body has allocated Rs 40-crore for filling up potholes in the city.
"We have set a deadline of April 15 for excavations on roads April 30 deadline for excavations on the footpath. All the reinstatement work should be completed by May 10 to make the roads and footpaths safe during the monsoon season," additional municipal commissioner RA Rajeev said.
"For nullah cleaning this year we will put a board which will have details about the start and completion of the project, details of contractor and deputy chief engineer of the ward and silt removed from nullah to ensure there is no clogging," Rajeev said.
The road network under the local civic body is about 1,941 km. Every year about 150 km of roads are upgraded in asphalt and concrete as per the specifications of Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH) and Standing Technical Advisory Committee (STAC).
