After the arrest of Mumbra resident Mudabbir Shaikh for his alleged links with the IS and for radicalising youths, locals from the area have decided to form a group and act as police informers. If they come across any suspicious activity within their society or see any person indulging in any crime, they will inform the police about it.

"This will not only help the residents and the police, but will also deter anti-social elements from getting involved in such activities," said an officer from the Thane commissionerate.

Resident Ishtihar Shaikh said, "We have started feeling unsafe in our homes, we don't know who lives next door and who can be trusted. People like Mudabbir Shaikh have harmed Mumbra's image with many residents thinking of shifting. Hence, we have decided to help the police if we come across any suspicious person or activity."

"We are conducting a rally too to create awareness among youths, who are the IS's main targets. We want peace and that can be achieved only if we all come together and fight the IS," said a Mumbra-based maulana.

Senior inspector from Mumbra police station MK Tayde said, "We want to eradicate the problem and for that it is necessary to take help from the residents. We are taking appropriate steps to clamp down on such things."
