Delay in HSC results expected as protesting teachers refuse to correct answer sheets

Sixty five lakh papers of HSC board are lying unchecked across the state claimed The Mumbai Junior College Teachers' Union (MJCTU) affiliated with the Maharashtra State Federation of Junior College Teachers' Organization (MSFJCTO) who are on protest. The MJCTU had given a deadline of 20 February to state government to concede to their demands or else had threatened that they will boycott paper correction Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) board examination that starts from 21 February.

The ongoing protest is for some of their demands which include a pension scheme for teachers who joined after 1 November 2005, aid for teachers working in unaided institutions, seeking approval on the appointment of the teachers working from May 2, 2012, which has delayed their salaries. In total, there are 32 such demands.

Anil Deshmukh, general secretary, said, "The board could not conduct the meetings of chief moderators of different subjects. According to Bombay High Court's order the results of HSC should be declared before June 5. If there is a late in declaring the results, then the state government will be responsible. No teachers are touching any paper correction packets sent to them."

Subhas Borse, secretary of Mumbai division board, said, "The number of papers lying unchecked could be in lakhs but in Maharashtra, as the HSC examination just began. It goes to the specific colleges for checking. If they are not being checked then it will be kept in safe custody of college principals. We will wait till the junior college teachers and government come to some conclusion."
