Pressure group of all movements for creating separate states is likely to take up separate Vidarbha issue
The demand for separate Vidarbha would receive another fillip when former advocate general of Maharashtra Shreehari Aney would head the National Federation of New States (NFNS) and assume charge from May 5. A meeting of all the stakeholders of this pressure group will be held at Press Club of India on Raisina Road in New Delhi on May 5.
Aney created controversy when he expressed his views about a separate Vidarbha in first week of December 2015 on the eve of winter session of state assembly in Nagpur. He again reiterated the need for separate Vidarbha in March 2016 when budget session of state assembly was going on.
After criticism from the Opposition, Aney resigned as advocate general of the state. Aney's grandfather Loknayak Bapuji Aney had been president of the Indian National Congress which was the only dominant party in pre-Independence era.
After resigning as AG of the state, Aney received hero's welcome in Nagpur and many organisations, advocating for separate Vidarbha demand joined hands under Aney's leadership to press for the demand yet again. On May 1, when the entire state celebrated Maharashtra Day, it was Aney and various organizations that hoisted flag for separate Vidarbha state.
Aney is known for his stand on separate Vidarbha and has elaborately presented his views during the meeting of the National Federation of New States in August 2015 which was headed by Late PA Sangma. The NFNS is a pressure group of all the movements across the country which are working for creating separate states including Vidarbha, Bodoland in Assam, Gorkhaland in West Bengal, Harit Pradesh out of Uttar Pradesh among others.
It is likely that Aney could lead the pressure group after the demise of NFNS patron PA Sangma. Aney is slated to take charge as head of the NFNS which would provide a fillip for the movement for creating state of Vidarbha as well as that of other smaller states.
