The founder and CEO of the massive electronics company Yageo Corporation, Taiwanese billionaire Pierre Chen, is auctioning off 25,000 bottles of wine from his extensive collection, with some of the rarest bottles likely to bring as much as $190,000 each.

Only 'a percentage' of his collection will be represented by the bottles that will be auctioned. With an estimated net worth of $5.5 billion, Chen is currently the 10th richest person in Taiwan and the 515th richest person in the entire globe according to Forbes.

Sotheby's one of the world's leading auction firms, is organizing the five-part sale, the wines are expected to sell for a combined price of up to $50 million (Rs 4,15,97,82,500), making them the most expensive and largest wine collection ever offered at auction.

Less than five years prior to the auction, the billionaire sold $15 million worth of wine through Sotheby's. He is also a well-known art collector, owning pieces by painters including Francis Bacon, Gerhard Richter, and Pablo Picasso.

Over the course of the next 12 months, Sotheby's will hold five dedicated auctions for the 25,000 bottles. In November, the first auction will take place in Hong Kong. The five sales, which will be spread out across a year, will each highlight various wine-producing regions and varieties. Other sales are planned for Paris, New York, and Beaune, Burgundy after Hong Kong.

Chen has assembled the bottles over the past four decades, according to the reports of the auction house. Know the wines that were part of his collection:

The most desirable lots on offer are red burgundies, namely vintages from the legendary La Tâche vineyard that is extremely hard to find. Two of them are "methuselahs" dated 1985, which are six-litre bottles valued between $120,000 and $190,000 each. A second 1999 methuselah from the vineyard is anticipated to sell for between $100,000 and $130,000, while a 1971 three-litre "jeroboam" (or double magnum) is worth between $110,000 and $140,000.

A rare six-litre bottle of 1982 Château Pétrus, a Bourdeaux red wine described by Sotheby's as having "legendary status amongst wine collectors," is projected to sell for up to $65,000 in another auction. White burgundies and champagnes by Dom Pérignon and Krug are also offered for sale.
