Infuse ‘shakti’ in Congress and get posts and power. Sending this message the old grand party is trying to make Shakti, its a mass contact programme, a hit in Rajasthan by luring leaders for posts in the organisation on performance basis.

So far 2 lakh members across the state have been enrolled under the programme which is a brainchild of party president Rahul Gandhi. To spread the programme and increase members at grassroots level the party has worked upon a plan.

According to sources, the leaders who perform outstandingly by enrolling members in maximum amount will get posts or office in district or blocks. They will be felicitated in the party’s functions too or get a chance to meet Rahul Gandhi to share their ideas.

It is believed by the leaders that this would motivate workers to bring back people to the party fold who had ‘quit’ Congress in the Assembly election 2013, reducing the party to mere 21 seats out of 200.

Also, it would be helpful for the party leaders to record data of the members who could be tapped again in Lok Sabha election in 2019.

“The leaders who perform well in implementing Shakti project will have chances to get posts in block and district level committees. Moreover their performance shall be acknowledged by senior party leaders including the party president Rahul Gandhi in the functions. The party has enrolled 2 lakh members so far in the project,” said Vishal Meena, state coordinator of Data Analytics wing of the party which is supervising the project.

Shakti project was launched by PCC chief Sachin Pilot on March 8.

It is worth mentioning here that the BJP had launched mega membership drive through ‘Missed Call’ and became the world’s largest political party. Now, the Congress too is on a membership drive through ‘contact initiative’ programme called ‘Shakti’.

SHAKTI PROJECT

Shakti project was launched by PCC chief Sachin Pilot on March 8. The aim of the initiative is to create solid party cadres ahead of Assembly elections. Any party member or leader or a person wishing to join party may send his voter ID to mobile no 7045003900 to enroll in the programme. Technical team will verify the sender and later add him to the database. Post verification, the enrolled person can send his suggestion to the party.
