Hindus felt insulted when the Supreme Court cited "other priorities" to push the Ram temple case to January, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) said on Friday as it declared it could launch a nationwide movement to generate mass support for a temple in Ayodhya.

RSS general secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi said the organisation will not hesitate to launch an agitation for Ram temple at Ayodhya, if needed, a remark that came amidst a growing clamour for a law to clear the way for its construction at the disputed site in Uttar Pradesh.

"We will not hesitate to launch an agitation for Ram temple, if needed, but since the matter is in the Supreme Court, there are restrictions," Joshi said.

Bhaiyyaji Joshi said the temple is an issue of faith for crores of Hindus. "If Ram temple was not an issue of a priority then what else is the priority."

Joshi said that temple was among various issues discussed when BJP president Amit Shah met Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat in Mumbai earlier in the day. "If required, we would talk about bringing a legislation for building a Ram temple and also stage a mass movement."

Archaeological excavation that at Ayodhya during the tenure of former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao had established the presence of a Ram temple in Ayodhya, he said. "Since the land title is to be settled, we are waiting for the court verdict. We expected good news ahead of Diwali, but the Supreme Court has postponed the issue."

"It is prerogative of the Court and I would not comment on it but when Court says that it has other priorities then it is insulting to the entire Hindu community," he said.

Commenting upon bringing legislation for building Ram Temple, Joshi said whenever it is brought and those who demand it would do so but RSS would request Court to expedite it on a priority basis.

Responding to Rahul Gandi's comment that he was more Hindu than RSS people and RSS should learn Hindutwa from him, Joshi said, "there is no need to take his statement seriously". When asked whether he does not take Rahul Gandhi seriously, Joshi said RSS never hesitated in listening to any statement on the organisation if it so deserves.

Commenting on Sabarimala women's entry issue, Joshi said, "RSS is against all kind of discrimination. In Hindu religion, husband and wife perform Pooja together. However, in India, temples have their own traditions and rules and their work cannot be dictated by law, the reason why RSS feels that before any such decision, people of the temple need to be consulted."
