On Thursday, the Alipore Court reserved its judgement on CBI's demand for a non-bailable warrant aganist Rajeev Kumar.

Earlier, Alipore Court asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to state why it requires a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar, as the central investigation agency seeks his custody in the Saradha chit fund case.

On Tuesday, Barasat court had asked the CBI to approach the Alipore court for moving an NBW against Rajeev Kumar. The court said that it does not have the jurisdiction to pass NBWs.

CBI had moved the court seeking an NBW against Rajeev Kumar after the ex-Kolkata top cop failed to appear before it even after being summoned in the Saradha chit fund scam case and filed anticipatory bail plea in the Barasat district judge court. However, his plea was rejected by the court.

Meanwhile, Joint Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Pankaj Srivastava on Thursday said that the investigating agency has already moved the Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) petition against former Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar. He added that a special team has been formed for this purpose with officers from the CBI office at Salt Lake in Kolkata.

CBI has also sent a letter to West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Virendra Kumar, seeking former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar's active phone contact number.

CBI sources said that the agency has sought Kumar's active contact number as a part of its investigation into the Saradha chit fund scam case.

Kumar has been evading the investigation since Friday when the Calcutta High Court withdrew protection from arrest granted to him in the case.

The CBI has requested the state DGP and the chief secretary to direct him to appear before it.

The agency is set to constitute a special team to trace the location and whereabouts of Kumar.

Kumar was a part of the SIT constituted by the West Bengal government to probe the Saradha scam before the Supreme Court transferred it to the CBI. He is accused of tampering with evidence in the case.
