On the 117th day of his fast-unto-death for a Nirmal and Aviral Ganga, the Uttarakhand administration decided to shift Sant Gopal Das, 39, to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh by road from AIIMS Rishikesh on Thursday. His aides from the Matri Sadan Ashram, Haridwar, told DNA that he gave up water on Tuesday and had decided to continue his fast. Since then he had to be rushed to AIIMS Rishikesh twice, but as his health deteriorated the administration on Thursday evening took him away and left for Chandigarh.
At the time of going to press, sources from PGIMER said they had received information on the seer's arrival at the hospital.
Just a week ago, veteran scientist-turned-seer GD Agarwal also known as Sant Gyanswarup Sanand died after 112-days of fast-unto-death for Ganga.
Opposing the decision to move him to Chandigarh, the seer has written to the Chief Justice of Nainital High Court, seeking intervention. "Today, out of the blue I am being taken to PGIMER Chandigarh, even as I have not complained about my health condition. I am not a football that can be kicked around and even I have my health rights. Here, AYUSH and Unani treatment is available and I am allergic to allopathy. I cannot bear the side effects...kindly take note of my situation," Sant Gopal Das wrote in a letter to the Chief Justice. He signed the letter on Thursday afternoon.
The seer also informed in his letter that like Swami Sanand, he wanted Nirmal and Aviral Ganga and was opposed to the anti-environment development underway in the Himalaya mountains. Sant Gopal Das began his fast on June 24 at the Badrinath shrine in Chamoli district and has been moved to different places in the state.
