Armed with the information about Pakistan’s designs to create trouble on the western border, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday cautioned Pakistan not to repeat “mistakes of 1965 and 1971” and warned that by doing so it would run into the risk of disintegrating itself further over human rights violations on its soil.

In a clear indication that Pakistan’s activities could lead to an Indian response in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (POK), Singh said, “They should not commit the mistake of repeating 1965 and 1971. If they repeat it, then they should think what will become of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir...Human rights violations are committed against Balochs and Pashtuns there. If it continues, no power will be able to protect Pakistan from disintegrating further.”

The defence minister was speaking at a Jan Jagran Sabha (public awareness meet) in Patna organized by the BJP. Last month the Saffron party had announced a month-long outreach programme across the country to create awareness about why it was important for the government to revoke Article 370 and 35A to remove a special status provision in Jammu and Kashmir and how this will lead to full national integration.

Singh also ruled out any kind of talks with Pakistan until it stops engaging in promoting cross-border terrorism.

“Talks with Pakistan will resume only after it stops promoting terrorism. And the country must keep in mind that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and discussion can only take place about Pak-occupied Kashmir (POK),” he added.

Asserting that Article 370 was like cancer which was bleeding Jammu and Kashmir, Singh claimed that more than three-fourths of the population in Jammu and Kashmir was in favour of abrogation of Article 370.

“The BJP had never softened its stance on Article 370, irrespective of whether it was in power or not. Its abrogation has proved that the party is honest and credible, and it does what it says,” Singh said.
