Fuel stations in the state will remain closed on September 13 and 14 as the dealers' association has called for a strike to protest high VAT rates. If the state government does not reduce tax rates, the dealers will go on an indefinite strike from 15, said representatives of the Rajasthan Petroleum Dealers Association (RPDA).

VAT rates on petrol and diesel in Rajasthan are the highest compared to that in the neighbouring states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Gujarat, according to RPDA. Rajendra Singh Bhati, State President of the Rajasthan Petroleum Dealers Association, said the protest will be held against high VAT on fuel in the state.

The petrol pumps across the state will remain closed from 10 am to 6 pm on Wednesday and Thursday, he added. If the state government does nothing about the problem, Bhati announced an ongoing strike starting on September 15.

"The public as well as pump operators have been impacted by high VAT. We have frequently asked the state government to lower the VAT, but no action has been taken," the official claimed.

According to Suneet Bagai, the former president of the RPDA, "We had written to the government two weeks ago, demanding that it cut the VAT and road cess and give assistance to the common people and traders. Starting on September 15, we are going on an indefinite strike if authorities do not take action," TOI reported.

Fuel outlets in Rajasthan's border regions are suffering as a result of commuters choosing to purchase their fuel in neighboring states due to the much lower pricing there. Many gas stations in the state's border regions have shut down after consistently losing customers.
