Quality of water under AMC scanner

On Tuesday, AMC officials started checking water quality in Ambawadi area. In order to control the rising number of water-borne diseases during summer, the civic body has begun checking drinking water at various public places like schools, colleges, banks and offices.

The officials carried with them chlorine tester, test tubes and solution to check chlorine content in drinking water. They covered LD Engineering College, its hostel and nearby places.
Drinking water at various residential places of the ward was also checked. Officials also conducted a check at Ellisbridge Municipal School No.17 and the slums of the area. Samples of drinking water were collected and sent for testing.

The officials found out that some localities of Ambawadi ward received water with zero chlorine, while others received chlorinated water. "The chlorine level in water should be adequate. If it is inadequate, we instruct the water distribution department to add chlorine to the water," said Ashwin Parekh, sanitary inspector of Ambawadi ward.

The officials also checked fruit and juice vendors. Deputy health officer of west zone, Dr Bhavin Solanki, said: “We conduct such water checks daily in different areas of the zone"  Health officials collected a fine of Rs70,000 in total from vendors last week.
