In the backdrop of upcoming Assembly polls and 2019 Lok Sabha election, the BJP's campaign in Rajasthan is being spearheaded by none other than its star campaigner Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Over the past 10 months, PM Modi has visited the state every alternate month. On Saturday, October 6, Modi shall be visiting Ajmer and Pushkar, his fifth visit to the state so far this year, which shall see through the culmination of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra.

"PM Modi is scheduled to address a public gathering in Ajmer on October 6. He shall proceed to offer prayers at the Brahma Temple in Pushkar the same day before leaving for New Delhi," an official with the state government told DNA.

PM Modi's visits are rooted in the party strategy to ensure that the party gets a second stint at ruling the state, which hasn't happened over the last two decades. The Congress and the BJP have been swapping places in Rajasthan since 1998 when Ashok Gehlot toppled the BJP government led by Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. Since then Gehlot and Raje got alternate terms at ruling the state. In separate rallies, both party president Amit Shah and Raje have reminded the people that a change in government every five years is a fallacy and that they should vote for good governance.

BJP party president Amit Shah has been at the forefront of planning and executing the election strategy in Rajasthan. "The road to Delhi goes through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh," Shah has repeatedly said in every public meeting and address to the workers. The four states are going to assembly polls later this year.

Modi first came to launch the oil refinery project in Pachpadra, Barmer, on January 16, this year. He returned to the state for the launch of ambitious Central government plan – National Nutrition Campaign – which he kicked off from Jhunjhunu district on March 8.

He was in Jaipur to address the first of the beneficiary meets where more than 2 lakh direct beneficiaries were paraded by the government from different parts of the state. The high profile event held on July 7 was attended by Shah and anchored by Raje herself.

The prime minister surprised everyone by choosing to attend Parakram Parv the anniversary celebrations of the surgical strikes at Jodhpur Military Base on September 28. "This event could have been organized in Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat or Punjab, but the prime minister chose Rajasthan," an official with the state unit said.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visits will definitely help us win the second term in state. His visits coupled with good governance shall work in our favour this time," party vice-president in Rajasthan, Sunil Kothari, told DNA.

Party's national president Amit Shah has held the other end of the campaign firmly in his hands. He has made eight visits to the state in just three months to set the election juggernaut in motion. "He shall be in the Bikaner division on October 4 from where he will proceed to share the dais with PM Modi on October 6," a BJP official said.

Two Times The Charm

  • PM Modi’s frequent visits are rooted in the party strategy to ensure that the party gets a second stint at ruling the state, which hasn’t happened over the last two decades.
