Alarm bells are ringing for the political and security establishment after Jammu and Kashmir police detained the cop-driver of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLA from Shopian Aijaz Ahmad Mir, in a militancy related case.
Touseef Ahmad, a driver of the security wing of the Jammu and Kashmir police, was detained for questioning on Thursday. Police said Ahmad is being questioned in the militancy related case though he has not been formally arrested as yet.
"We have not arrested anybody. We have called him for questioning. He is cooperating in an ongoing investigation. It is militancy related case. I will be able to comment on the investigation when it will be on the fruitful stage. I can only say he has been called for questioning. He is a policeman," Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar, superintendent of police, Shopian, told DNA.
Police however did not specify the militancy case for which Ahmad is being questioned given the sensitivity of the matter and confidentiality of the case.
"He has been taken for questioning. He was my driver for around one and half year. During his posting with my security we did not find anything untoward against him. He is shy and good boy who was doing his duty in a very good manner", Mir said.
