PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti's house arrest claims refuted by Jammu and Kashmir police

Hours after People's Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti alleged of being "illegally detained" the Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday, November 27 came out with a clarification. 

Taking to the social networking site Twitter, the Kashmir Zone Police said that the PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti is not under house arrest and was only requested to postpone her visit to Pulwama due to security reasons.

"PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti is not under house arrest. She was requested to postpone her visit to Pulwama purely due to security reasons," the Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

According to Mufti, she and her daughter Iltija were not allowed to visit the house of PDP youth wing president Waheed Parra. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday had arrested Parra for his alleged links in a terror case.

"I've been illegally detained yet again. Since two days, JK admin has refused to allow me to visit Para Wahid's family in Pulwama. BJP Ministers and their puppets are allowed to move around in every corner of Kashmir but security is a problem only in my case," Mufti tweeted.

"Their cruelty knows no bounds. Waheed was arrested on baseless charges and I am not allowed to even console his family. Even my daughter Iltija has been placed under house arrest because she also wanted to visit Waheed's family," she further said.

Waheed Parra is a close aide of Mehbooba Mufti and has been a key figure in helping revive PDP's fortune in south Kashmir, especially Pulwama which is disturbed by militancy.

The NIA arrested Parra for allegedly seeking help from Hizbul Mujahideen terror group in the 2019 Parliamentary elections in which the PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti was a candidate.
