ONGC plant fire: Gas supply to MGL city, CNG stations in Mumbai affected

Gas supply to Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) city gate station situated at Wadala in Mumbai has been severely affected after a massive fire broke at ONGC's gas processing plant in New Mumbai's Uran, killing 5 people and leaving eight injured.

MGL is ensuring that supply to its domestic PNG consumers would be maintained on priority without interruption.

However, many CNG stations, across Mumbai may not operate due to low pressure in the pipeline. Industrial and commercial customers have been advised to switch to the alternate fuel, ONGC said.

Gas supplies across MGL’s network will normalise once the supply of natural gas from ONGC is restored.

The fire erupted in the storm-water drainage early morning on Tuesday at ONGC gas plant in Uran. It was successfully doused within two hours by the fire fighting team.

"Our robust crisis mitigation preparedness helped put off the major fire in a very short time," ONGC had said.

The crisis management team was also present at the spot. So far there is no impact on oil processing. Meanwhile, the gas is being diverted to Hazira Plant.
