India organises two-day meet on agriculture

To address issues related to farmers and to enhance productivity in agriculture, India is hosting a two-day meeting of agriculture cooperatives from across 24 countries. The meeting will commence on Thursday. The Network for Development of Agricultural Cooperatives in Asia and the Pacific (NEDAC) is a regional forum linking cooperative organisation of eight countries of the region. 

The organisation sensitises governments in the region on the role of agricultural cooperatives in promoting agricultural and rural development to ensure rural food and livelihood for millions of people in Asia and the Pacific. 

The NEDAC comprises 16 cooperative organisations from across nine Asian countries that serve as its members.

The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) represents India in the forum. 

The NEDAC organises periodic meetings to promote exchange of ideas and experiences among countries in the Asia Pacific region. 

It organises consultations, workshops, seminars, research projects, courses and other training programmes for senior level policymakers, cooperative leaders and middle-level managerial and technical staff on policies, programme management and technical aspects of agricultural cooperative development. The two-day meet will  provide impetus to the agricultural sector.
