Delhi youths arrested for auto-theft

Deepankar, a national level swimmer, and Ajeet are final year BCA students of a reputed management college in Ghaziabad are among the six youth arrested.

Six youths, including two BCA students, were arrested in the national capital for their alleged involvement in at least 34 cases of auto-theft and 12 stolen vehicles recovered from them, police said today. Manoj Kumar (22) the gang leader, Shashank (19), Manoj (22), Deepankar (24), Ajeet Kumar (21) and Sanjay Kumar (22) were caught from various parts of the city in the past three days.
 
Deepankar, a national level swimmer, and Ajeet are final year BCA students of a reputed management college in Ghaziabad, deputy commissioner of Police (South) HGS Dhaliwal said. The arrests came following raids in several places in Trans Yamuna area and Jungpura-Bhogal. During one such raid, three persons -- Manoj Kumar, Shashank and Manoj -- were caught on July two and five motorcycles recovered.
 
"One motorcycle was found to be stolen from Mehrauli whereas the engine and chassis numbers of other four vehicles were found to be tampered," Dhaliwal said adding the remaining three others were arrested yesterday from Jungpura. During interrogation, Dhaliwal claimed, they operated as two teams. While Manoj Kumar, Shahshank and Manoj allegedly used to steal motor cycles around midnight by applying force to break the handle lock, the others allegedly prepared forged documents to facilitate the selling of stolen vehicles.
