Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) took custody of a close aide of dreaded gangster Dawood Ibrahim, Brajesh Singh (42), in the case of smuggling of 37 AK 47 rifles from Ahmedabad to other parts of the country. The DCB took his custody from Delhi police and produced him in a local court on Wednesday evening.
The court sent Singh to police remand till October 12, 2010. Sources in DCB told DNA that so far his involvement is clearly seen in the weapons smuggling case registered with them in 1994. However, the cops may take his custody for two other important cases of Ahmedabad also.
The police may take his custody in the infamous Radhika Gymkhana massacre case in Odhav and a loot with murder case of a Mehsana based trader. Sources in DCB said that Singh had also committed several other crimes in the city and the police are in the process of collecting corroborative evidences against him.
Sources in DCB also said that the police wanted to know about his role in the smuggling of the AKs and the places from where he procured them.
"The police also want to know whether there were more weapons or there were only 37 AK 47 rifles in the consignment," a police source said.
Singh hails from Uttar Pradesh and was arrested by the Delhi police in 2008 from Orissa when he was living under another name. The Delhi police nabbed him for his connections with various extortion cases. Sources said that Singh had killed as many as 100 people in the last two decades, with his first murder being done at the age of 17.
Singh was also among the persons involved in the infamous JJ Hospital shootout in 1992. He killed Shailesh Aaldankar, a member of the Arun Gawli gang and also two police official in the shootout. Singh's nephew Sushil Singh is a sitting MLA from Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh.
