Bombay HC grants six-month bail to Varavara Rao in Bhima Koregaon case

P Varavara Rao, one of the prime accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, was granted bail by the Bombay High Court on Monday for six months on medical grounds.
A division bench of Justice SS Shinde and Justice Manish Pitale passed the bail order in two separate matters pertaining to the 82-year-old.
After six months, Rao will have to surrender himself or apply for bail again. During this time, he will have to inform the National Investigation Agency (NIA) about his whereabouts along with his phone number. Imposing stringent conditions on the bail, the court ordered Rao to submit his passport to the NIA and appear in the court during hearings.
Rao isn't allowed to contact other accused in the case nor he can pressurize the witnesses.
Notably, he was first arrested by Pune police in August 2018, in connection with the case involving a conspiracy to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which he and his family have denied, as per a report by news agency IANS.
The Bhima Koregaon case relates to alleged inflammatory speeches made by some prominent people at the Elgar Parishad conclave in Pune's Shaniwarwada on December 31, 2017. According to the Pune police, the speeches triggered violence near the Koregaon-Bhima war memorial in the district the next day.
Left-leaning activists Sudhir Dhawale, Rona Wilson, Surendra Gadling, Mahesh Raut, Shoma Sen, Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves, Sudha Bharadwaj and Varavara Rao were arrested by the Pune police for alleged links with Maoists
