Cyber cell of crime branch received calls from parents asking for guidance and tip-offs

The Ahmedabad Cyber Cell of Crime branch received 35 calls in eight days on the helpline number launched to create awareness on the Blue Whale Challenge. The helpline number was issued on September 7.

As per the cyber cell officials, out of the 35 calls received, only one call was from the victim. The others were regarding guidance to prevent the Blue Whale threat and tip-offs regarding the links of the Challenge.

The officials have received calls from parents in the city asking how to prevent their kids from felling prey to the challenge. The officials gave tips on how to prevent their kids from playing the Challenge and how they can know whether their kid is playing the Challenge or not. They also told the parents to keep a close watch on their kids, especially when they are using a mobile phone or a computer.

Officials also received many calls from people who claimed that they have links of the challenge in order to get the reward of Rs 1 lakh.

Rajdeep Zala, ACP, Cyber cell of crime branch said, "We have received many links of the challenge, but not a single one is genuine. People have sent us links to other fake Blue whale games which are available on Google play store.

But it's a good news as people have now started taking this news seriously and have started approaching for help."

The helpline number for Blue whale challenge was launched by Cyber cell of crime branch on September 7, 2017, as per the orders of City police commissioner AK Singh.

The helpline number brochures have been made by the department which is circulated in the city areas and they have even posted the helpline number on Social media sites.
