A day after the TMC organised a mega rally at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, the West Bengal BJP unit said it would write to the Election Commission demanding a probe into where the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) got funds from to organise such a big rally.

"They had spent crores on the rally at Brigade. Money had been spent on cutouts, hoardings at every step and hundreds of vehicles have been hired. TMC has to answer the question as to where the fund came from. We will write to the EC for a probe into the matter," said BJP national executive committee member Mukul Roy on Sunday.

Taking a dig at Saturday's rally, Roy said the TMC had joined hands with a bunch of rejected leaders and said that they would save democracy in the country whereas, in reality, those parties were not strong enough to take on the BJP. "Ironically, she is the one who had killed democracy in Bengal. Several people were murdered in Bengal during Panchayat elections. Hundreds could not even submit their nominations. Nowhere else in the country has such widespread violence been witnessed," he said. He added, "Do the leaders who were on the stage know the situation in Bengal. Mallikarjun Kharge should have asked his party leaders in Bengal about what they had been facing in Bengal."

Taking a dig at the opposition gathering, Roy said, "Who is the leader of the alliance? Since they don't have a leader they keep saying that they will decide on a prime minister candidate after elections. In our case we have a PM who already has the support of the people," Roy said.

Countering claims that the Central government was interfering with the activities of the CBI, he said that the TMC itself was using the police and CID in the state to bring down attacks on workers of Opposition parties. "Bengal has become a state of cops. Here CID and police are used only to implicate BJP workers in false cases. Mamata is now complaining against the CBI and it was she who used to demand a CBI probe into every little thing which happened in the state. Now she hates CBI as it is investigating scams in Bengal under the order of the Supreme Court," he added.
