At a time when the charitable activities of stars are carefully
coordinated with their film releases, Preity Zinta has proved to be an exception. The star has not only adopted 34 orphan girls from an orphanage in Hrishikesh but sources say that Zinta has also ensured that there is a steady flow of money to meet all their expenses since the past one-and-a-half years.

Yes, they are the ones who feature in the background of Preity Zinta’s twitter account, the 34 girls whose food, studies and even clothes are sponsored by the Bollywood beauty.

“The girls think that she is Godsent and have made it a habit to pray for her everyday. Preity also maintains a line of communication with them no matter where she is,” says a source close to the Mother Miracle school in Rishikesh from where Zinta has “conditionally adopted” the 34 girls.

According to sources, Zinta has promised to visit them twice every year to ensure that her money is being properly utilised and that the girls are getting what they need.

“She has instructed the officials that she must be immediately apprised of any specific need of a child so that she can arrange for it. It is true that some of the girls will soon reach a marriageable age but Zinta has insisted that everybody should get an opportunity to complete their education first and that academics should be given priority over everything else,” the source adds, revealing that it was during March last year that Preity had conditionally adopted the girls.

Preity had earlier confirmed that she had adopted the girls. “It’s true. I’ve adopted these 34 girls. I’ll be looking after their entire upbringing from education to food, clothes and the like. You’ve no idea how wonderful it feels to hear the excited chatter of all those girls together as they welcome you into their lives. Believe you me, it’s the best birthday song I’ve ever heard,” she had told the media immediately after adopting the kids.
