On Thursday, Pakistani singer cum actor Meesha Shafi took the social media by storm by alleging that Ali Zafar had sexually harassed her on more than one occasions. While Ali Zafar has 'categorically declined allegations made by Ms Shafi' in his official statement, many women have thanked her for giving them the courage to speak out against the singer. #MeToo movement has hit Pakistan as after Meesha Shafi, more women have confessed to have had not so pleasant memories of Ali Zafar

Make-up artist Leena Ghani also took to Twitter and shared her #MeToo story saying, "I'm ending my silence too...his behaviour displays a clear lack of respect for women. Inappropriate contact, groping, sexual comments should not fall in the grey area between humour and indecency. ...The memories of the times where Ali thought he could get away by saying vulgar things to me still disgust me."

Another girl talked about her ill experience with Ali Zafar when being a fan she just wanted a selfie with the actor. In a long note explaining why she didn't have the courage to say anything back then, she recalled the incident and wrote, "I asked,'can I get a selfie with you?'. He didn't say anything, he gave me a smirk and gestured by opening one of his arms and what I took as a yes. I came and stood right next to him and was about to click the photo when I felt his hand go up the side of my waist. GO UP MY WAIST properly, clearly. I don't want to be explicit. I felt it and I knew it happened."

While Pakistan's film industry has majorly chose not take any sides, celebrities like Osman Khalid Butt and Mahira Khan have slammed those making insensitive comments about the issue of sexual harrasment.

Ali Zafar denied Meesha Shafi's allegations and took to Twitter to say that he will take the matter to the court. “I categorically deny any and all claims of harassment lodged against me by Ms Shafi. I intend to take this through the courts of law and to address this professionally and seriously rather than to lodge any allegations here, contesting personal vendettas on social media and in turn disrespecting the movement, my family, the industry and my fans. Ultimately I am a strong believer that the truth, always prevails.”
