Actor Govinda thinks that joining politics has in a way  killed his career. The actor had joined a political party and contested the elections in 2004 where he was elected the Member Of Parliament on a Congress ticket. Govinda then voluntarily left politics in the next election, deciding to step down.

Govinda joins the ranks of actors Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt who have previously said that joining politics was perhaps the biggest mistake of their lives. “It was a big mistake to join politics. If I am given a chance to change all that then this is one part of my life I would always like to change,” says the actor.

Govinda is still struggling to revive his acting career as most of his recent films have bitten the dust at the box office. His last two films have been one of the biggest flops in the financial year in Bollywood so far. His last hit, Partner that was with actor Salman Khan, is still struggling for a sequel because Salman’s date diary is choc-a-bloc for the next two years.

“I believe that it has to do with the fact that my films were not promoted that well and I had wasted a lot of time in politics. I had put on a lot of weight during that time (he used to weigh more than 100 kilos during that period). When I decided to make a comeback in films, it became very difficult to lose that weight, but still I tried my best. I am working very hard, but all the years that I have wasted in politics are taking a toll on my career. Some of the films that I have done are lying in the cans and I hope that they are released soon,” says the actor.

Govinda says that there are a few good films that he is trying to do and they might break the jinx for him. “There are some good films that are on the slate for me and I hope that it is going to do what some of the previous films didn’t do for me. It’s just a phase for me and I am working around it,” he adds.
