I holidayed in…Mauritius.
Travelling for me means feeling at home even while you’re out. I host the travel show ‘Yatra’ (Star Plus) produced by my husband Randeep Arya.
So I can be with my family even while at work. I visited Mauritius a couple of months ago. As Mauritius does not require a visa, we stayed there for two months at a stretch.
It has a lot of sport activities like ground sports, water sports, para-sailing, scuba-diving and dolphin riding, which my four-year-old-son Shubh enjoyed. Mauritius is best known as ‘Second India’ as 60 per cent of its residents are ancestral Indians.
The spoken languages of the people are Kreol Morisyen, French, Bhojpuri (Hindi) and English. It was hilarious to hear firangs speak in Bhojpuri.
I stayed at…
We stayed at Beau Rivage—a five star hotel. It boasts of typical thatched-roof villas and combines legendary Mauritian hospitality with the right touch of tropical elegance.
All rooms have a balcony or a terrace with a sea view, internet access, mini-bar, Jacuzzi and a kitchen. It serves the best sea-food especially, the tiger prawns and lobsters. The Mauritian tribals were asked to perform the Sega dance on a few occasions.
I dined at…
I am a foodie. If you want to taste the traditional flavour of a place you should head for the streets. A must-have there is an Indian roti and chutney with spinach dumplings. They are like our Frankie with a pinch of spice.
I shopped at…
I am not a shopoholic. I love buying antiques as they depict the history of a place. As I love cooking I pick up various ingredients, which would spice up a meal back home. You find the best combination of French and Indian cuisine in Mauritius.
The place rocked…
The most astounding place I visited is an island on the Belle Mare beach. The magnificent turquoise lagoon is protected by coral reefs and is a haven for swimming and water sports.
It has a beautiful waterfall and a place to relax with your loved ones under the shed of a private boat. You can also take long walks on the shore exploring the place and the people taking sweet memories back home.
