Cinematographer honour for Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman is set to receive a top honour from the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) for his contribution to cinema.

The 72-year-old actor will be presented with the Board of Governors Award for "significant contributions to advancing the art of filmmaking" at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Feb 27.

"Morgan Freeman is a consummate actor and producer who devotes his considerable talent and influence to projects that make a difference," the Daily Express quoted ASC president Michael Goi, as telling Variety.com.

Previous awardees include Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Francis Ford Coppola, Gregory Peck, and Robert Altman.
